About me
18 years in education on St. Maarten. Recipient of an Exceptional Teacher Award. Recognized by Commissioner of Education William Marlin. But what matters most? Every child I work with grows. Academically, in confidence, and in independence. I work closely with parents, because real progress happens when we work together.
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but I am not your typical Dutch girl. With Surinamese roots on my mother’s side and my crib in Holland, I was raised with warmth, laughter, good music, dancing and food, and a strong drive for academic excellence. My grandparents shaped that in me. My mom and dad also taught me that growth goes far beyond academics. That beautiful combination is exactly what I bring to every session.
My strict approach comes from that same background. I am a person of principles, in life and in my work. I have high expectations of the effort a child puts in, and I am known for being strict but fair. At the same time, the wellbeing of every student matters deeply to me: their confidence, their self-image and their happiness. Academic growth and personal growth go hand in hand. Always.
One thing I strongly believe: a child must want to learn. I can guide, support and challenge, but the motivation has to come from within. When a student is not invested, I am honest with the parents. Because their time and money deserve results.
